Happy Anniversay!
It was one year ago today that I made my first post on this blog. And now, three hundred and fourteen posts (three hundred and fifteen countng this one) later I'm here and still going.
I thought it would be good to do something memorable to mark the one year anniversary. I sat around, pondering what might be a good thing to do, running through my internal list of things that interest me. I finally settled on origami.
While trying to decide what I should fold, I was reminded of the story of Sadako Sasaki and her thousand paper cranes. Most people are familiar with the book based on her life, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr.
Sadako was two years old when the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. When she was twelve she contracted leukemia. Based on a legend that says anyone who folds one thousand paper cranes would please the gods and be granted a wish, Sadako started folding paper cranes. She started out wanting to be cured but eventually desired World Peace.
This sounds like a good goal to me. This world can use all the Peace it can get. So I am going to fold one crane a day (maybe more) until I reach one thousand. I'll be keeping track of the number of cranes I fold in the sidebar of the blog. If anyone wants to join me, there are instructions on folding a paper crane on the Sadako website listed above.
